Job Opening: IP Specialist

imgresOPENPediatrics is looking for an IP specialist to manage third-party intellectual property clearance for the program.  OP materials have a large number of third-party charts, graphs and other intellectual property imbedded within them that needs to be cleared in a systematic fashion.  We do this through a process based on the ten years of experience and practice in the open education community.  We are seeking an IP specialist to oversee this process, train staff, clear content directly and seek partnerships with academic publishers to facilitate inclusion of content.  Here’s the official job description:

The OPENPediatrics Program at Boston Children’s Hospital is looking for an Intellectual Property Specialist to join its team. OPENPediatrics is an interactive digital learning platform for healthcare clinicians sponsored by Boston Children’s Hospital in collaboration with WFPICCS. It is designed to promote the exchange of knowledge between healthcare clinicians around the world caring for critically ill children in all resource settings.

Responsibilities:

  • Trains staff on department/program third party materials copyright clearance process.
  • Consults with staff on Intellectual Property clearance issues.
  • Performs primary Intellectual Property clearance work for conference videos and other materials.
  • Negotiates with copyright owners to secure blanket agreements permitting the program to user owners’ content in materials.
  • Manages the peer review process for materials.

Requirements:
The program seeks to hire and individual who is extremely attentive to detail, is organized, and is able to work both independently and as a member of the team. The individual must be able to move work forward in a timely manner. Work requires familiarity with principles of derivative rights management typically acquired through a Bachelor’s degree which includes study in Library science, medical research, or intellectual property law. Familiarity with open content licensing is preferred.
